Delta Tau
University of North Carolina Wilmington
Pi Sigma Epsilon Chapter
News Release

March 2009 - Of the many fundraisers the Delta Tau chapter of PSE hosts each year,
Wing Fling is the largest and most popular of all. Wing Fling is a community event
allowing local restaurants to compete in a chicken wing competition. Proceeds from the
event benefit PSE, the CSB Scholarship Fund and the Foundation of UNCW. For Delta
Tau members, arguably one of the most beneficial aspects of planning Wing Fling is the
opportunity to gain real-world marketing experience. During the planning stages of the
event, for example, students are responsible for selling sponsorships and determining a
promotional strategy.

The 13th annual Wing Fling on March 21, 2009 at Hugh McRae Park. The event was a
huge success! For the third year in a row, all 5,000 tickets sold out several days in
advance. New this year was a 21-and-up age requirement and VIP tickets, which were
sold at a premium to those wishing to enter the event an hour in advance.

Sponsors of Wing Fling 2009 included Budweiser, Z107.5, Surf 98.3, The SideBar, L&L
Tent and Party Rentals, Activia/SocialWorld, and Brent Fogleman. Wing Fling 2009
featured ten local restaurants competing for the best wings in Wilmington. First place
went to the Pilot House. Entertainment for the event was provided by three live bands,
SmoothOp, Fortune in the Sun, and Shut Up & Deal.
